The Fall 2011 Iowa Notary Class Schedule has been posted. Many who have been asked by their employer do not understand the importance of their role. They do not understand the responsibility and liability they place upon themselves.
Do you understand there are different types of Notary Certificates and each has a different function? In other words, you need to perform differently depending on the type of certificate on a document. Do you even know what constitutes a Notary Certificate?

Do you realize there are times you are required to administer a verbal oath to the signer prior to notarizing?

These are just a few of the highlights of your duties. If you are not aware of the above, then you are putting yourself and your employer at risk.
If something comes into dispute and you have not made an attempt to be versed in your duties, a judge will not take a comment of "I didn't know" as an acceptable defense. As with all things in our laws, ignorance is no excuse. As an Iowa Notary you have three choices. You can keep your head in the sand, you can take our online class here at the United Notaries website, or you can enroll in a local college class nearest to you in the Fall 2011 semester.
