Our new web/domain name (UnitedNotaries)
Our new web/domain name (UnitedNotaries)
Not affiliated with the old www.unitednotaries.com
We took a poll and the United Notary Association of America was the winner. Now for a domain name. We tried unaoa.org but it wasn't clicking for anyone.
We tried united notaries and we could get .net and .org but .com was taken. One day we saw on the boards that a company calling itself United Notaries was going bankrupt and the domain unitednotaries.com was not accessible. We contacted this company and in exchange for building them a new website under their new name they transferred ownership of the .com to us.
There is no affiliation whatsoever with a company called Dean Notaries.

Re: Our new web/domain name (UnitedNotaries)
The really nice thing about it is that anyone typing any of the 3 addresses (.com, .org or .net) will all be directed to the website. I am glad that they were able to acquire all 3 of the top level addresses.

Re: Our new web/domain name (UnitedNotaries)
Exactly Tony. Any will direct you to the UNAA, however, the official webaddress is www.unitednotaries.org since we are a professional organization.
** .net--It was initially intended for use by network oriented entities such as Internet service providers. Currently, there are no formal restrictions on who can register a .net domain name. Therefore, while still popular with network operators, it is often treated as a second .com.
**.com--Although .com domains are officially intended to designate commercial entities (others such as government agencies or educational institutions have different top-level domains assigned to them), there has been no restriction on who can register .com domains since the mid-1990s. The opening of the .com registry to the public coincided with the commercialization and popularization of the Internet, and .com quickly became the most common top-level domain for websites.
**.org--.org was one of the original top-level domains, established in January 1985, originally intended for use by organizations that did not meet the requirements for other gTLDs. Now anyone can register a .org domain. .org was the domain commonly recommended for use by individuals, although .name and .info are now alternatives.
The above bits of explanation were taken from Wikipedia.
.org seems most appropriate for the association as the official webaddress.
